Maya - Magna Carta: Crimson Stigmata

When I was in high school, and had just discovered cosplay, I made costumes every year - and from the second year I entered, I made them for my mates, too! I was incredibly proud of myself when she took out third place with this one :) This costume was a big learning curve if I recall correctly - I learned the hard way that bows that big need to be super stiff, and flounced hems take a LOT of fabric! There was a running joke that this friend would forever be making cotumes with a cut hat and massive bows - there are no earlier costumes for her I have documented, but her taste definitely ran to "cute".

I can't actually remember whether I dyed this fabric or not - either way, the jacket and dress were made of a 2-way stretch bengaline and trimmed with fur, with the sleeve details painted on by hand. The hat was the same, and stuffed to acheive maximum floof. Petticoats were simple little accessories, and the gloves were some I had in my collection that I trimmed with fur. The boots were a pair of ug boots that I covered and added trim to.

The ginseng root was FUN! He's made from sweatshirting and stuffed, face painted on and top knob added seperately. The leaves were bought fromthe Warehouse and shoved in the top, with the bow made fom some scraps I had laying around. The collar "barrel" and heart were sculpey, and painted/embellished. The rope around his neck was two strands of thick cotton cord twined together. The bells were shaped from wire and covered with orange microknit, and painted.

Photos from everywhere - some are from my mum, and the others I think from friends at the event? The mists of time are confusing me! :P
