Lolita cosplay dress

This dress was commissioned in January 10. It was based on a design from fanplusfriend, which in turn was based off an outfit worn by Dir en Grey's Shinya in one of their earlier ensembles.

So I custom-dyed some red cotton sateen for this, and upon cutting all pieces, carefully measured how much lace I would need. It came to 22 metres. I measured wrong - I actually needed 28! The lace was also originally white - it's cotton, and was carefully dyed and pressed before use. My god, so much lace - SO MUCH LACE. The dress closes with a zip at the center back, and the bow is detachable - it has a brooch pin at the back.

I was quite pleased with this one - call me a masochist, but I rather enjoy ruffles! I can't wear cute stuff - I'm too damn tall - so it's nice to make cute girly stuff every once in a while. The amount of fabric in the dress itself is good - there's enough body in it to sit well, though should really have a petticoat for support.

All photos by me - shot at Christchurch Armageddon, 2010.
