Made in March '10, original steampunk design by me. This wasn't technically a commission - I was part of the organising committee for the Wellington Cosplay Ball, and as we couldn't afford to pay our wonderful performers, we did whatever we could to give them a thank-you: in this case, a costume :)
This outfit was designed to go with a steampunk Yuuko worn by me at the same event. The pinstriped suiting is the same used in mine, our blouses nearly match, and the ribbon detailings are complemaentary in each costume -I hope to get some photos of the two of us together soon. The whole costume was relatively straightforward; no gravity-defying or non-euclidian geometry required! Thank god. The blouse was really fun - I modified a fantstic 70's shirt for the sleeves and bodice, and added the ruffles and straight collar piece. The bottom petticoat is tulle, and the over petticoat is a cotton blend with a hem ruffle and tiered ruffles at the back half, exposed by the half-dress worn over top. That item was a bit of a cop-out - we were getting really, really pressed for time towards the night of the ball and though I would have liked to make the over-skirt more durable and more like an actual dress, there simply wasn't time. Because of this, the bloomers (which are the CUTEST things I have ever seen!) were made by Gemma, another committee member and all-round awesome chick. The rosette and hat were made from ribbon and pre-bought accessories and pinned into shirt and wig.
Photos by me, at the ball :)
